On June 7, Dr. Li Yue presented an online academic lecture titled Dynamic Response Analysis Method for Critical Infrastructure Considering Soil-Structure Interaction Under Seismic Excitation Conditions for faculty and students at our university. The event was hosted by Xu Zhonghua, Vice Dean of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, with participation from faculty members and undergraduate and graduate student representatives.

Beginning with the urgency of global climate change and energy transition, Dr. Li highlighted the advantages of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) as a new direction in nuclear energy. He introduced an efficient Floor Response Spectrum (FRS) generation method for critical infrastructure under seismic excitation. Based on the principle of spectrum-to-spectrum direct conversion, this method analytically constructs a transfer matrix to directly convert Foundation Input Response Spectrum (FIRS) into Foundation Layer Input Response Spectrum (FLIRS), systematically incorporating Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) effects. It eliminates the need for generating spectrum-compatible ground motions and repeated analyses of the entire structural system, significantly improving computational accuracy, efficiency, and physical interpretability in seismic resistance assessments. Such research findings hold substantial theoretical and engineering significance for fields such as nuclear power, urban underground spaces, and mining engineering.

As part of the university’s Interdisciplinary Innovation Series, this lecture not only provided a platform for faculty and students to engage with cutting-edge international engineering technologies but also offered new research perspectives in earthquake engineering and infrastructure safety through insights from industry experts. It further advances the cultivation of interdisciplinary civil engineering talent under the New Engineering Education initiative, driving higher-level development in the field.
