On the morning of June 10, 2025, Prof. Camilo Ayra-Pardo, PhD, Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society of London and Professor at CIIMAR(Interdisciplinary Center of Marine and Environmental Research), University of Porto, Portugal, was invited by the School of Life Science and Technology to deliver an academic lecture titled “Harnessing Lysinibacillus spp. for Sustainable Agriculture: From Genome to Growth Promotion”. The event was chaired by Dr. Li Dandan, Dean of the Institute of Modern Biology, with attendance from Niu Qiuhong, Dean of the School of Life Science and Technology, key faculty members, and graduate students.
At the outset, Li Dandan extended a warm welcome to Prof. Camilo and expressed gratitude for his visit. She introduced his latest research achievements in agricultural pest control and innovative biotechnological solutions for sustainable agriculture. Professor Camilo then elaborated on the molecular mechanisms by which a novel Lysinibacillus strain isolated from palm tissue enhances plant growth through nutrient activation, hormonal regulation, and stress tolerance induction. He demonstrated its remarkable growth-promoting effects in pot experiments and proposed a new strategy leveraging genomic analysis and synthetic biology to accelerate the development of microbial fertilizers. These innovations aim to adapt to climate change, reduce reliance on synthetic chemicals, and support low-input agriculture.
During the interactive session, faculty and students engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as “next-generation smart microbial fertilizers” and “green agricultural transformation”, fostering a vibrant academic atmosphere.
NYNU upholds the principle of “research serving practical applications”. This high-level academic lecture not only introduced cutting-edge international research but also broadened participants’ academic perspectives, strengthened global research collaboration, and provided innovative theoretical and practical frameworks for sustainable agriculture. Moving forward, the university will continue to facilitate high-end academic exchanges to support breakthroughs at the frontiers of science and technology.
