On the morning of April 16, Nanyang Normal University held the opening ceremony for its 44th Sports Meet at the athletic field in the Central Campus. University leaders Meng Jingya, Liu Honglin, Liu Shouyong, Xiong Xinzhong, Wang Yan, Xie Haiquan, Liu Jinjiang, and Leng Feng attended the event, along with members of the sports meet organizing committee and heads of various schools. Vice President Liu Jinjiang presided over the opening ceremony.
Kicking off the event was an impressive demonstration of Ba Duan Jin performed by 1,000 participants. The ceremony continued with a solemn procession featuring the national flag and university flag escorted by the honor guard, followed by the sports meet emblem. Judges, graduate students, international students, and delegations from various schools then entered the field in turn, presenting lively performances that showcased their academic specialties. The official opening commenced with the national anthem.
Vice Party Secretary Liu Honglin delivered the opening speech. He emphasized that a strong sports culture reflects a strong China, and a thriving nation fosters athletic excellence, highlighting how sports carry the dreams of national prosperity and rejuvenation. Since its founding, the university has consistently promoted all-round education and moral development, while actively advancing physical education reforms to cultivate students’ comprehensive development in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education. Liu encouraged students to embrace the Olympic spirit of striving and perseverance, foster teamwork to achieve collective honors and maintain fairness and uphold ethical standards. He concluded by wishing the 44th Sports Meet a complete success.
Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission and Ombudsman Liu Shouyong announced the members of the sports meet organizing committee. Representatives of judges and athletes then took their oaths. Finally, Deputy Party Secretary Meng Jingya declared the 44th Sports Meet officially open.
The sports meet will last for three days, featuring over 2,000 athletes competing in Group A, Group B, and the Faculty Group across various events.
