To implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with Cuba Universidad de Oriente (Eastern University of Santiago) and strategically plan cooperation directions, Nanyang Normal University held a project advancement meeting on the morning of 12 June 2025 at the Jinyi Hall, 2nd Floor, Beijing Asia Hotel.

The meeting was attended by Irene, Third Secretary and Educational Counselor of the Cuban Embassy in China, and Cao Rongduo, Director of the China Representative Office of Universidad de Oriente. Representing our university were Vice President Xiong Xinzhong and officials from the International Office. The session was chaired by Director Cao.

Vice President Xiong outlined NYNU’s educational characteristics, disciplinary strengths, and development strategy, highlighting Nanyang City’s unique geographical location advantages, ecological resources, and profound historical culture. He expressed hope that with strong support from both governments, the two institutions would uphold principles of mutual trust and benefit to advance cooperation in joint training of international high-level talents in environmental science and education, and Sino-foreign cooperative education programs.

Xiong stated Nanyang Normal university stands ready to provide full support for implementing these collaborations, extending a formal invitation to Cuban embassy officials and Universidad de Oriente leadership to visit NYNU.

Irene reviewed the longstanding diplomatic friendship between Cuba and China, sharing achievements in Cuba’s socialist construction and higher education development. She noted as the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with New China, Cuba has maintained enduring educational cooperation with China, pointing to growing student exchanges at increasingly advanced levels with significant future potential. She said that the Cuban Embassy in China is willing to provide necessary support and help for the in-depth cooperation between the two universities.
