On March 23, the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture hosted an academic lecture titled “Intelligent Diagnosis and Trenchless Rehabilitation of Urban Underground Drainage Pipelines” in the lecture hall of the West Campus Library. The event featured Professor Fang Hongyuan from Zhengzhou University as the keynote speaker, with Xu Jun, Dean of the School, presiding over the session. Nearly 200 faculty members, students, and researchers in related fields attended the lecture.
Professor Fang provided an in-depth analysis of the critical challenges facing China’s urban underground pipeline engineering. Addressing issues such as leaks, corrosion, and cracks caused by aging water supply, drainage, gas, and heating pipelines, he systematically outlined key scientific and technical challenges in the field of intelligent diagnosis and trenchless rehabilitation of underground pipelines. He also shared his team’s latest research achievements in the entire pipeline management chain, including “defect diagnosis, performance evaluation, rehabilitation and reinforcement, and emergency response”, covering theoretical advances, technologies, materials, and equipment development. Professor Fang emphasized that these studies play a vital role in ensuring the operational safety of urban lifelines, promoting technological advancements in the industry, and cultivating interdisciplinary high-level talent.
Attendees noted that Professor Fang’s lecture provided cutting-edge insights into intelligent pipeline diagnosis and green rehabilitation technologies. Several graduate students established preliminary connections with Professor Fang’s team for potential research collaborations, laying the groundwork for future academic exchanges. This event not only broadened participants’ professional perspectives but also offered new directions for the development of related disciplines at our university.
